Oregon Softball Clinches Series Over Stanford

By Knight Jarecki

It wasn’t the prettiest weather or game for Oregon Softball as they hung on for a 7-4 victory on Saturday afternoon in sluggish weather conditions. The win give the Ducks their 30th win of the season.

Stanford got out ahead early scoring 3 runs in their first 3 trips to the plate. The lead didn’t last long as in the bottom half of the 3rd inning, Oregon exploded for 6 runs to claim the lead and never looked back. The inning was highlighted by a 2RBI single by Rachel Cid and a 2RBI Double by Allee Bunker.

Oregon added another run in the 6th inning and Stanford added a run in the 7th but the damage had already been done as the Ducks held on for the 7-4 victory.

Brooke Yanez was the winning pitcher for the Ducks. She picked 6.0 innings allowed 4 runs with only 1 run being earned. Haley Cruse had a great showing offensively registering 3 hits on 4 at bats as well as a stolen base and run. Rachel Cid also did well offensively with 2 hits and 2RBI’s in the winning effort.

With the win Oregon clinches the series against the Cardinal. The two teams will play in the series finale on Sunday at 10:30am.
