STORY: Oregon Baseball Walks it Off Saturday at PK Park to Clinch Series Win Over UCLA

Written Story by Alex Roth

The Oregon Ducks walked it off in the 10th inning Saturday afternoon at PK Park on a single by Sam Novitske. The winning run was the first scored for either side since the third inning, and capped off a game filled with terrific relief pitching performances from both teams.

UCLA struck first in the game with a two run second inning, with Josh Hahn and Michael Curialle bringing home runs off of RBI singles and doubles. Those runs would be the only surrendered by Oregon starter Cullen Kafka however, as he posted a solid performance with a final line of 4 hits, 2 earned runs, 4 strikeouts, and 2 walks. Oregon would tie it up in the bottom of the third inning, with Kenyon Yovan and Aaron Zavala each bringing home runs to tie it up at 2-2.

The game would then remain tied at 2 for six consecutive innings behind solid relief pitching efforts for each team. Nico Tellache and Andrew Mosiello combined to pitch four innings and only give up two hits while striking out five for Oregon. Mosiello got out of a crucial jam in the top of the ninth inning, striking out Kyle Karros to keep the game tied at 2.

Kolby Summers pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the tenth and then handed it off to heart of the Oregon Batting order. Kenyon Yovan started off the inning with a single before errors and intentional walks would load the bases with one out. Sam Novitske then delivered the dagger walk off single.

The 3-2 win gives the Ducks their 7th series win of the season and moves their record to 24-8. Oregon will attempt to go for the sweep of UCLA Sunday at 12pm at PK Park. You can catch that game streaming live on the Oregon Sports Network or follow KWVA sports on twitter for live updates.
